Badlands is a wall of sound, blending the elements of early new wave and Hacienda hay-day, evolved into something new, startling and true. Sprung out of creative resourcefulness and childlike escapism, her tunes can be described as spaceage fables and sudden encounters, told through analog synths, club beats and organic pop orchestration. Indisputable emotional, yet relentless and proud. Badlands puts the 80’s chasing of emotion and melody romance in a modern context, which creates a dreamy sound that remains unparallelled within the contemporary scene.

Behind this one-woman-band hides producer Catharina Jaunviksna. Born and based in Sweden, she still has two other home countries in Ireland and Italy, and maybe that has added to her distinctive and genuine sound.

With it’s strong sense of melody and distinct production, new album “Locus” testifies of a Badlands that has become more true to her emotional ideas and instincts. From the first release with EP “Battles Within” 2012 and single “Tutu” 2013, the former experimental and at times trip-hop scented project has now left the sound searching quest and grown up to be a genre of it’s own.
